Why You Need Molasses in Your Gardening Toolkit

I get a lot of questions about how to grow better flowers. One of the things I'm always recommending is foliar feeding. And one of the best things to incorporate into any foliar spray that you create is molasses. It's dirt cheap, easy to use and provides a rich source of carbohydrates for the microorganisms in your garden.

Molasses is a powerful natural biostimulant and a great food source for beneficial microorganisms in the garden.

It can be used on its own but is better when combined in a foliar spray with other microorganism-stimulating ingredients like compost tea or AEM (Actived Effective Microorganisms). Or, when watering new transplants by hand, just add some to your watering can. Be sure to use unsulfured molasses.

 
 

Here’s a simple but really effective foliar feed recipe using molasses:

Compost Tea Foliar Spray Recipe 

1.5 cups compost tea

10mL unsulphured molasses

10mL liquid kelp

5mL liquid fish

4 litres of water
